Opener back in England


England batsman Marcus Trescothick arrived back in England on Wednesday after leaving the Ashes tour with a recurrence of his stress-related illness.


The opener, who had also pulled out of the Test series with India earlier in the year and did not return there for last month's Champions Trophy tournament, jetted into Heathrow looking exhausted.

Having abandoned his official touring blazer for a brown leather jacket, blue shirt and jeans and carrying minimal luggage, he was met by a driver and left quickly.

The 30-year-old had flown out of Sydney yesterday and arrived in London just after 5am following a stop-off at Hong Kong.

The Somerset opener had suffered a breakdown just nine days into the tour and had to be consoled by team doctor Nick Pierce during a warm-up game with New South Wales in which he had made only a handful of runs.

It is unclear whether Trescothick, who has played in 76 Tests and was a vital part of last summer's Ashes-winning side, will represent England again.
